Aberdeen City Region Deal - weekly progress update 23rd October 2015

As work on the City Region Deal continues to progress we are pleased to announce that professional services firm, Ernest & Young, are now working with us to help refine and complete the detailed financial modelling behind the bid. Whilst the City Region Deal bid is not purely about financial support, it is crucial, not only to the success of the bid, but the implementation of the plans in future, that financial modelling around the various projects and initiatives is robust.

Along with the financial modelling, work on what will be ‘the final Bid’ continues to progress as the project team continue to engage with key partners and businesses to help to finalise the document. It is now anticipated that the final Bid will be submitted to the UK and Scottish Governments by the end of 2015.

This week, the City Region Deal has been a hot topic at the MIPIM UK Conference in London - the UK’s largest exhibition and conference for property professionals. As part of the Scottish Cities Alliance stand, we have been discussing the wealth of opportunities for investors in the north east, including projects such as the regeneration of Aberdeen City Centre, plans for the new AECC, and the Aberdeen International Airport Development Zone. The City Region Deal will help us to further enhance our region’s opportunities and attractiveness to investors.

As mentioned in a previous update, we are pleased to be taking part in the upcoming City Region Deal Business Breakfast, hosted by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber Of Commerce next month. Aberdeen City Council leader Cllr Jenny Laing and Co-Leader of Aberdeenshire Council Cllr Martin Kitt-Hayes will be speaking at the Business Breakfast alongside council Chief Executives Angela Scott (Aberdeen City Council) and Jim Savege (Aberdeenshire Council).

Also Speaking at the Business Breakfast will be Stephen Phillips, Partner and Head Of Public Sector Team at Burness Paull LLP. Earlier this week, Stephen wrote an article about the City Region Deal on his blog for the AGCC website. The article details why we, as a region, need to be working together to maximise our prospects of success, particularly against the background of our current economic challenges.

Looking ahead to next week, we are delighted to be hosting a special City Region Deal Parliamentary Reception at Holyrood to discuss the deal with MSPs. Over 40 representatives from the region, spanning a range of public bodies and private sector industries, will attend the event and will meet with MSPs to discuss and share their support for the Deal. Make sure to lookout for a review of the event in our next weekly email.

Finally, we are announcing the launch of our new City Region Deal website, www.abzdeal.com – a great resource where you can find all the latest information on the Deal. If you have colleagues or contacts who you think would also like to receive these updates, please direct them to the site to sign up to our mailing list.
